Obesity Causes Disease

According to the website county health rankings.org, a quarter of adults in Park County now report a body mass index of 30 or more, which puts them in the category of obesity. As an example, a woman who is 5 ft 6 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds would be considered obese; so would a man who is five feet 10 inches tall and weighs 210.

The Centers for Disease Control reports that people who are obese are at increased risk for many serious diseases and health conditions, including high blood pressure, mental disorders, coronary heart disease, stroke, osteoarthritis and cancer.

So it is BECAUSE I CARE that I encourage people to find ways to improve their health. I am on a mission to improve the quality of life for my friends and family, and THEIR friends and families!

It’s also important for me to share that I have struggled with weight my entire adult life. At age 22, I wore size 22 jeans (see the picture? That really is me!)… and I have been on a yo-yo diet rollercoaster for much of that time since. It has only been in the last 8-9 years that my weight has stabilized at a healthy point; but this last year was tough for me (age? hormones? not enough of the right kinds of activity?) and I’m on a mission to bring myself back into a weight range that is comfortable for me. I want to live a long, full, colorful life that includes adventure and joy – and NOT be hampered by a body that won’t do what I want it to do.

My friends, I urge you to take action steps to become more healthy – not just for the reward of winning a contest, but to win at LIFE!
